Zachary Sloper

  • Name: Zachary Enias Sloper
  • Birthdate: 9 April 1961
  • Nationality: English
  • Bloodline: Half-blood
  • Sexuality: Heterosexual
  • House: Slytherin (1972-79)
  • Occupation: Unemployed
  • Alignment: Neutral

Zach is very charismatic and enthusiastic which lends to his leadership style – ignore everyone unless it will get you into trouble. He’s very good at bluffing professors and other authoritative types. He’s good at mediating between people, but only if it has some sort gain for him. Being a prefect has focused his attention and helped refine his bullshitting skills. Zach only cares about being a prefect because it makes him look good. He’d rather be out playing Quidditch or practicing his hexes and curses. Zach can be a bit of a hot-head, especially when his character is called into question (or calling him a girl or anything feminine). Some people might call him oversensitive, but Zach would just punch them in the face to shut them up. He's a bit impetuous and not very spend-thrift, but when you're as rich as Zach, it's okay to do that. He does like to show off and might be more than a little snotty when it comes to whose bank accounts are bigger.

He likes his close friends and is more open with them than he is with strangers. He tends to value 'play' over school work, often concentrating on his sports and other extra curricular activities than on his lessons and revision, which usually catches up with him and he spends time on the sidelines or pulling all-night-ers to get everything he's procrastinated done. His charisma might come off as jerky or cocky to those who don't know him well. Zach is just very confident in himself and his abilities. Zach gets a little nervous around girls but doesn't want it to show, so he'll act out a little, trying to show off for them and usually ends up looking like an arse. Zach rarely apologizes for anything he's done, he believes that if you don't live life to the fullest, you'll regret not doing it and no one likes the taste of regret. Zach can be an arse and he really doesn't give a shit what people think (most of the time; he cares about his friends and likes to conform to what they think of him). He's not just another jock or rich kid, because he can care about things; he just chooses not to.

: Zach has two older brothers, one was a smart-as-hell Head Boy and the other captain of the football team; so he's got a lot to live up to. In his own mind at least. His parents are okay with Zach just being himself; but he's got to push himself to be like his brothers. It's always been that way with the three of them. Zach loves his brothers, but is determined to do something more than his brothers; to prove himself better at something than them. Owen (a squib and the eldest) plays football professionally (even though Zach would like to point out that he's only still a warm up, second string player) and Quintus is a research analyst for the Department of Mysteries or something like that. Zach already knows he can never be smarter than Quinn, so he's given up trying to outdo him in learning.

He lived a pretty normal life and he loves his family, even if his dad is the biggest dork in the world and his mom is a little flighty and they're so incredibly embarrassing (for a sixteen year old, at least). Zach has never really wanted for anything. He's spoiled and just a little bit of a brat; he just knows what's his and how to get it; even if it involves whinging a bit to mummy. Zach always knew he was going to go to Hogwarts, even though Owen didn’t. He likes to keep that bit of his life quite, but his father insists on showing him off whenever. He was relieved though when he got in; he always feared he wasn't good enough and that he'd disappoint them by not.

He's always felt more comfortable being around 'the boys'. Growing up with two older brothers has pushed him to be competitive in all things. There wasn't really a need to be over their parent's attention or toys, it was just something they did. Who could eat the most cereal in one bite, who could climb the tree the highest, who could stack the most books and not topple them over. This competitive streak has helped his sports and he uses it to push himself.

As a child, Zach was incredibly loud and exuberant. He's always been full of energy and since he's been at Hogwarts, he's been able to focus that energy and calm himself (it’s not good for a Slytherin to be out of control), but when he was younger Zach drove his parents mad. He was always first up and made lots of noise waiting for his brothers to get up.

star sign: Aries
symbol: Ram.
element: Fire.

aries in depth: Aries is the first sign of the Zodiac and governs the head. Positive characteristics of Aries include courage, enthusiasm, idealism, charisma, quick wits, an ability to "think on one's feet," leadership potential, exuberant energy, zeal, and innocence. Negative traits include selfishness, tactlessness, egocentrism, an inability to save money, impetuousness, a hot temper, combativeness, oversensitivity, carelessness, and cruelty.

the slytherin aries: A Slytherin Aries is a bundle of contradictions. In some ways, they have the potential to be the strongest of their House - the intensity, drive, and brilliant visionary dreams of the Aries combined with the innate leadership skills, the charisma, and the profound sense of self (including the eccentric lack of interest in conforming to what other people think) is stuff of which great magical legends are made. However, a Slytherin Aries has much to learn about politics, knowing who is an appropriate object of trust and who is not trustworthy, knowing when to keep one's mouth shut, and knowing when to avoid acting on impulse in order to use a situation to its best advantage. Although they hate to admit it, these Slytherins are easily manipulated by more cynical, shrewd peers in the Serpent's Den. If they can learn to manage their blind spots, they will go far. Slytherin Aries types can be quite cruel, especially if they have enough physical prowess to bully smaller students; those that are not cruel can still be thoughtless and brutally tactless without actually meaning to cause damage.

inside scoop: Zach's a little embarrassed by his parents. His mother is an artist of no fame, mostly just paints whatever she wants and is a socialite and his father is just the editor, but still nothing to be 'impressed' by. He kind of wishes he had amazing parents – healers who saved lives or philanthropists who fed third-world-countries – but he's just got normal, nouveau riche ones.

Zach also likes to read a lot – it comes from his grandfather being a writer as well, but he hates school texts and having to read for an assignment. He'd rather get lost in a good novel or a newspaper article, but he doesn't like people knowing about that, it makes his image look soft or something.

Zach would like to be a vegetarian, he just can't. He hates the way meat tastes and the texture in his mouth but he knows it's a good source of vitamins and protein, so he sticks to chicken and fish because it's the most tolerable meat out there. He'll often reach for the salad or other source of nourishment before any red meats, its all for his health and playing quidditch.
